What's New with V

Hi everyone!  I realized I really need a place to blab about what's new!  I've been a little scarce in the past couple of weeks, and was thinking that, since I don't have a blog, there's no good spot for me to give you updates on what's going on.

So, to start, I've been busy battening down the hatches and packing for my trip to...Scotland!  Yes, I leave next week.  My friend Monica McCarty and I will be traveling mostly around the Argyll area, and I'll be seeing all the Campbell and MacDonald hot spots that I write about in Warrior of the Highlands!  It's so funny...Monica and I write about different time periods, and yet we've both gravitated to Campbells and MacDonalds!  Should be a blast...

p.s. if you're wondering about the Forum's subject header, my close friends call me V.  =)

How fun and so exciting! Take lots of pictures. Have a safe and wonderful trip. I can't wait to hear all about your adventures.

Thanks, GettysburgLady! I'll definitely be taking lots of pics!!

p.s. I love your quote!

I just wanted to let everyone know...my Big Trip starts TODAY! So I'll be offline for the next couple of weeks. Looking forward to catching up with everyone when I get back!
big hugs to all--

I'm back!! My apologies for taking a couple of days to post--yesterday was my and my husband's ninth anniversary! He got me the cutest little cruising bicycle, complete with a detachable wicker basket so I can ride it to the market in our neighborhood. I love it! But I digress...

I was talking about...THE TRIP! For those of you just catching up now, Monica McCarty and I traveled to Scotland, spending twelve days in the western Highlands, touring Argyll, Bute, and Islay, seeing many of the hot spots I cover in my next book, Warrior of the Highlands!

We had spectacular weather--the first and only day of rain we saw was the day we left Glasgow for home! We were lucky enough to have found the most amazing guide, Iain Watson, who drove us to a bunch of spots off the beaten path...minor castles, an old drover's road, a tiny, two-table cafe with--I swear--the best sandwiches in Scotland...all the while sharing dozens of stories and tidbits that are already making my current work-in-progress that much richer.

Photos will come soon--you can imagine Monica and I have hundreds to catalog!
But, for now, it's great to be back. :)

WOW! Sounds like you had a wonderful time. It also sounds like Iain Watson was a big help. Did he talk with a Scottish brogue? I could just sit an listen to that all day. Anyways I'm glad your back and I can hardly wait for the photos.

Oh you and me both, Kathy! He did have a Scottish accent (and a kilt!), though Monica and I kept ribbing him that he didn't say "aye" nearly enough...

After much delay...my new Contest is posted! I was merely waiting to get just the right prize on my trip... :) Check it out--and, good luck!

I'm going to check the contest out after I post here. I have one more question I just have to ask you Veronica, Did you get a picture of Iain in his Kilt? Or any others? I hope you post the pictures soon.

I did! And I will post photos soon, I promise. :) My camera broke on the second day, so Monica ended up taking all the photos. I still need to get a CD from her with a complete set.

I was really bummed at first about my camera, but it ended up being a happy accident. I transcribed all the notes and she took all the pictures. She took over 300! Can you imagine if we'd had *two* cameras and *two* sets of pictures to merge and catalog?!

It sounds like you and Monica had a wonderful time! I'm so pleased to hear it. Of course, we will be the lucky beneficiaries of your experiences and the amazing sites you visited when you translate them into your books! I can't wait!

Glad you both arrived home safely. Looking forward to seeing Iain in his kilt. LOL! Geez, I wonder if he realizes what a stir he is causing here in the States?

ROTFL! Okay, okay, ladies. Lest I make you wait too long...here's a photo of me with our braw guide, in front of Finlarig castle:

p.s. you can see a larger version of that image here. The rest will be posted SOON, I promise! =)

That old saying "there is something about a man in uniform" seems to work the same with "there is something about a man in a kilt."

LOL!

Thanks for posting that picture!

You KNOW I agree with you, Carolyn! Sadly, there weren't many kilts to be seen on our trip. If only those Scotsmen knew what it did to a girl, they'd never wear jeans again! LOL...

~Sarah~

Though I will envy you while you are on your trip, I do hope you have a fabulous time and a safe holiday!!!!

~Sarah~

Oh Sarah, sadly I am already back from the trip... Sigh. And I'm already dreaming of the next one!!

Veronica, thanks for posting the picture. You look totally excited standing in front of that castle with your guide. I know I would be too. Just thinking about the history behind a place like that, WOW!
I'll keep checking in to see if you posted your photos.

I WAS super excited, Kathy!! Iain was such a fantastic guide, too. Did you know there are no laws against trespassing in Scotland? That castle is on someone's private land! Apparently, as long as you're respectful, you are welcome to wander where you will (or "ramble," as the walkers call it.)

~Sarah~
I just wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! TO everyone who reads in here also!!!!

Thanks, Sarah. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you, and to everyone else too!!

I was curious, when I sign in everyday, I see that it mentions a newsletter. I have never recieved a newsletter. I am assuming that it would come in my email? I get one once in a while from Karen Moning, so that is why I say that. Did I misunderstand something or do we not get it because you always just tell us stuff in the forums?
Thanks!

~Sarah~

Nope, you didn't misunderstand. I just don't send out a lot of newsletters...I don't want to spam people! So I send something out when I have a new release. I bet you signed up *after* Warrior hit the shelves...?

I am sure I did. Thanks for clearing it up!

~Sarah~

That really clears up a lot too because I never got one either! LOL. But then again we talk to you so much here and facebook that we kind of already know what is going on. LOL you are our personal newsletter! LOL

~Lizzie

LOL. A girl tries. :)

I know and you surely work it V. I don't know how you do it. Write with kids and hubby in tow, plus, twitter, facebook! WHEW just call you Wonder woman!

~Lizzie

I am in the presence of greatness on this site!

~Sarah~

Ha! So you think! You should see the state of my house!! Not to mention the fact that I regularly tromp around in a ponytail and sweats sans makeup. :) Regardless, thank you for the kind sentiment!!

That there is the statement of a real woman. Who wants to get dressed up and put on make up to work around the house? Not I said the fly! I too, am a fan of the pony tail!

~Sarah~

And you're welcome!

~Sarah~

V, REAL WOMEN wear ponytails! I do it all the time and let me tell you my house looks like HELL on earth so join the club!

~Lizzie

I love it! Then I am one big REAL woman, here in my hoodie this morning! :)
