Veronica and Monica's Mommy Abandonment Tour 2008

More Castle Sween

You can clearly see where the second floor would have been.  It was so amazing getting a chance to wander around, trying to imagine what castle life might have been like.

Castle Sween kitchen

What remains of the Castle Sween kitchens, including some tools and a bread oven.

On to Islay...starting with Finlaggan

The seat of the Lords of the Isles and of Clan Donald, on Islay, an island in the Hebrides.  Finlaggan is a vast site, with ruins of multiple buildings.

Finlaggan ruins

Another shot of Finlaggan.  A light breeze rustled those reeds, making the most soothing, wonderful sound.

Monica and V at Finlaggan

I was ready to build a home just there and live amongst the sheep.  I fear it'd be a tough sell for my husband, though...

Islay beach

One of the many gorgeous beaches on Islay.  You can see Bowmore in the distance.  Tell your whisky-loving friends, Bowmore Legend is one of the best and tastiest bargains going.

Hike to Ardnave Point

Iain, Monica, and I hiked across lush fields, braving cows, sheep, and one stiff breeze, to Ardnave Point, on Islay.

The Onicas on Ardnave Point

Sigh.  This goes on record as one of my most-memorable days.  Look at how saturated those colors are.

Kildalton Cross, on Islay

A remarkably well-preserved Celtic cross, dating from the 8th century.

Kildalton graves

I was swept away looking at these old grave markers, wondering just who those ancient warriors were.
