My name is Clarisse and I'm from South Africa. I try and read a novel or 2 a month and last payday I saw your book on our shelves for the first time, so I bought it.
There was a bit of drama at home and only got to reading last week. I just finished Master and it was stunning!!!! When I finished the last page, I was sad that it was done. But you ended the story lovely. It was amzingly well written.
I live with my husband and 2 toddlers (my youngest turned 1 yesterday)and to try and read with the 3 of them keeping me busy is at times very hard LOL.
But one thing that I want to add, I started writing myself a while ago. Only playing around more than anything else as my husband is the writer in the house....
After I read your Acknowledgments page in the front of the book, I was inspired to start looking at my work more seriously.
The bit that got me the most was this:
"And last by not least, my amazinf husband and best friend, Adam, who believed before I did that I had a book in me, and for being a partner with me in this, as in all things"
WOW! That got me right in a soft spot. My hubby is bugging me to no ends to write and take my stuff seriously. After I saw that bit and I saw that you did it, my fingers started to itch with new vigor.
You are a great author and story teller. Can't wait for the next book. Will be in front of the queue to get my copy.
Have a smashing weekend all.

Hi Clarisse!
What a treat to wake up this morning to your lovely post. Did you realize you were the first? I just launched my Forums yesterday. :)
Thank you for such wonderful sentiments. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the book!
You must try your hand at your own writing! I know how hard it is--I swear I wrote parts of Master of the Highlands with a toddler attached to each leg, and it took years. But page-by-page, it happens. Good luck to you--and listen to that husband of yours! I did mine, and it changed my world.
All the best to you,
Veronica

Hehe, I didn't think that it would be 3am on your side. When I was typing and posting my comment, it was about 11:30ish here in SA lol.
I was wondering why the forum looked a little empty, now I know ;)
My kids and my every day life is a very big part of what drives my story and my character. I get a lot of real life scenario's to use from my every day experiences with them, hubby and my "horrible" work. But it pays off in the end I suppose.
Have a great week and just another thing - WOW, its not often that you get such a hands on author with her fans. Thanks!

Hey I was so sure that I would be the first to post on your new forum but I guess I was beat to the post. Oh well...I'm from NYC and I'm 18 years old and just finished my first year of college last week. I've wanted to become a romance writer since I entered High School almost 5 years ago. This summer I plan to set up time for my first novel and I plan to get it done by the end of my summer. I will be reading my "how to" books on writing romance so I have some help with that and I will be doing a lot of research and I know it will be one of those summers you remember for the rest of your life.
I actually found out about Veronica through the J.R. Ward BDB Forum. I was looking through the member list searching for new websites and I stumbled upon Veronica Wolff's website. I went to her site and I found out that her first book was recently released in February and it was very similar to Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series. I decided to register to her website and I voted on her poll to either get a blog, message board, more historical content and more photos. I left a comment and she replied and was very nice and even joined my message board Romance Readers and Writers Forum. I decided to check out her book and so I went to Barnes & Nobles to buy it. I loved it and I decided that I would have to read more of her work and so I set myself to buying her next book when it comes out.
I finished see the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspien this past Saturday and decided to go to the Barnes & Nobles on 66 Street in Lincoln Center. I went up to the romance section and what do you think I found? I saw a large stack of Veronica's second book Sword of the Highlands and I knew that on the website it said that it would be released on May 27 but I couldn't contant myself and so I bought it immediately. I hope that's okay Veronica because I just couldn't contant myself I wanted to read it immediately.
Well that is a long introduction and so I'll leave it at that and let others introduce themselves too.
Hey there, Phoebe! Good to see you! :) I can't believe you spotted my book out already--how exciting! I can't wait to hear what you think.
best,
Veronica

Hi Veronica! These forums are so great! I just head an interesting segment on NPR tonight about interesting ways authors are using their websites to expand the world of their books. Then I came home to find one of my friends doing just that!
Fellow Celtic Heart's member here. Like you, I began writing romance at my husband's urging several years ago. He continues to inspire me and encourage me in my efforts.
As a result, I am proud to say I finished my first novel last year and am in the process of writing my second book. Several editors have shown an interest in my manuscript and I'm crossing my fingers for luck.
I have yet to read your Highland books, but I look forward to doing so soon.

How fun this is! And what a lovely site. Veronica knows me already (far too well, probably....) but for those who don't, I write contemporary suspense (my wildland firefighter trilogy will be out next summer) and very sexy contemps (my bad boys of football series launches this july in trade!).
I loved your first book, Veronica!!! And I can't wait to get my hands on the new one.
Hi Bella! You take the cake for Hottest Cover Ever. (aka Bella's first bad boys of football book, which she has as her icon above.)
Hey, I think each new person to introduce themselves should start a new thread! :)

I am Kimberly from South Dakota. I love to read any and all books I can get my hands on - just ask my family! I make my husband drive to church so I can read on the way! I sometimes have an audiobook in the CD player in the car and will be reading a hard copy book when I'm in the house, in the boat, in the bathtub, I haven't figured out how to read while I'm washing dishes yet, but I'm working on it! I love reading about the Highlands - that's how I stumbled on Veronica's first book - LOVED IT! I am waiting patiently to get to the bookstore tonight to get the latest.
I always hate it when I finish a book - I keep wondering what happens next??? I suppose that's why I like trilogies and series books. I was so disappointed when I finished your book and discovered it was the only one!
Keep on writing Veronica! I can't wait to see what you come up with next! I'm so glad your husband encouraged you to write!!
Hi Veronica,

And Kimmers, I am so right there with you on the book thing. I have an audiobook in my car that I often bring in to listen to while doing those dishes!

Hi Veronica,
I loved your first book and can't wait to get my hands on the next.
In fakt I'm badgering my postman about a delivery from amazon daily ("Is it there already yet?"). The poor man is trying to evade me now but I'm teaching my dog to track him down (well, I do MY best but the beast - the dog not the postman - isn't cooperating).
The posts about when or where one can read a book are very funny. I tend to read (or gobble) my books in one night so no one can disturb me. I really get cranky if I have to stop befor the end of a book...
(Sigh) Patience is a wonderful virtue... best admired in other people ;-)
Now I'm off to hunt down... eh, look for my dear postman.

Thanks again for what you do Veronica, you really are a great story teller and I appriciate that you share your talent with us!!!!

Although there won't be any sunbathing in "her" chair this summer (little doggie seems to have grown a bit during the winter). But she is content to share my lounger with me. Neither I nor the lounger are happy with that arrangement...
Would you per chance feel so sorry for a harassed reader of your books that you share a few (as in: many, a lot, gazilloins) hints about your next book to tide me over my long and patient (smirk)wait for SOTH?

LOL! Love to, Undina. The book is called WARRIOR OF THE HIGHLANDS and it hits the shelves in February 2009. The hero is Alasdair MacColla, whom you'll meet in SWORD OF THE HIGHLANDS!
If James Graham, the hero of SWORD, is lauded as one of Scotland’s greatest military leaders, it’s MacColla who’s known as one of the fiercest warriors in Gaeldom. He fought side-by-side with Graham and was renowned for his “superhuman” size and strength. Legends and songs of his feats abound, and I couldn’t resist imagining just what sort of woman would capture his heart.
And here's a teaser for you! My second 2009 release also features a hero whom you'll meet in SWORD. You'll have to try and guess who it is! :) Actually, that might make a great next contest!!

Hey there, Veronica! I am 40 now, and have been a HUGE fan of historical romance novels for YEARS!!!
When I find an author I love, I get every one of her books, as I usually read about one book a week.
I have two children who also enjoy reading. Every week we go to the library to take out books, or to buy some used ones that have been donated. This is how I came across your first book, "Master of the Highlands" I loved it SOOOOO much that I read it in two days LOL! You are an amazing and talented writer who really brings the reader "into" the story.
Sometimes, life in general (especially with two children who are involved in every organized sport there is) can be very hectic and exhausting, and reading these amazing historical romances that make you feel like you are back in time and a part of the story, can be a great escape! I find it very relaxing and enjoyable!
I am hoping to get up to the mall...SOON... so I can get your new book! I am very anxious to read it!
Perhaps giving away an autographed copy of one of YOUR books would be a great idea for a future contest!
Please keep the books coming! I wish you all the best.

Hi Veronica, My name is Kathy I am 45 years old and Im from Michigan, I am married and have one son who is 8. I work as a waitress on the weekends and spend all of my spare time reading. I usually read 2-3 books a week and I love Scottish romances the most but I do read any type of romance books that are out there.
I was at the store yesterday and saw your Sword Of The Highlands there. I read the back of your book and I knew I would love it. I started reading it late last night, got to the end of chapter 7, not wanting to read another full chapter that late, I read your Author's Notes. This morning on went on line right away went to your web site to see James Graham's picture. What a wonderful we site you have here. I've been to hundreds of Authors web sites and I have to tell you, yours is the first Forums I have ever joined. This is really cool and I hope I am doing it right. Seems to me that I am typing a letter, LOL.
Anyways I can already tell by the first 7 chapters I've read of Sword, that I will have to get Masters as soon as I can. I will also be waiting for Warriors to be released. Yes I am one of those people who read every story that a Great Author writes.
Your New Fan,

As in my first book, a lot was based on real events and people. Once you finish, you should check out the real history section of my site for more fun facts about James. I was quite taken with him. I still have a print-out of that painting hanging on my wall!

Hi Veronica! Its Cathie. Was so wonderful to chat with you the other night and so excited about your new book!
Historicals are a great comfort read for me. Dearly love time travels that are hard to come by now. I too read just about anything romance, mostly paranormals and fantasy after my favorites of historicals.
Tomorrow's my 25th wedding anniversary to my hero. We have two young adult children both in school. They make us very proud. Besides my reading I love board and card games. And too MahJongg. I do miss tho playing the 'games' like I used to on Friday nights with my friends, especially Scrabble, so I mostly into solitaire games now.
Thats my intro! I'm thrilled to be here visiting again. I got here when your boards open but had no idea how to use them, LOL.

Hi Cathie! Thanks so much for stopping by. :) Happy anniversary! 25 years--that's amazing. Congratulations.
I also love board games and have been trying to get our family to play more. It only gets easier as the kids get bigger (mine are far from adulthood!) I've always wanted to try MahJongg--it looks so fun. I'm a big Scrabble fan too--I think they have an online version now. Though there's no way I can even investigate that one--I'd instantly lose about 5 hours. LOL.

Hi Veronica,
Just picked up "Sword of the Highlands" today and am almost finished it. I love it! I ordered "Master of the Highlands" today from Amazon and can't wait to read that one as well.
I work as a night auditor in a haunted hotel on the Gettysburg battlefield. (I moved here from L.A. because of my interest in history.) Once I put the guests to bed and finish with the audit, my time is my own. As a result, I have become a ravenous reader and panic when I don't have at least 5 books to read. (I read a book a day.) I'm always looking for historical romances with my favorite location Scotland. I was delighted to find someone I haven't read before and even more delighted to discover such a talent. You and Monica McCarty are the best to come along in this genre in a long while. Your historical research and the way you weave it into the story is amazing.
I have opened up a space on my "keepers" shelf where I will be happily adding your books as they are read. Can't wait for more!

Welcome, Carolyn/GettysburgLady! Your job sounds SO cool! Do you ever get scared sitting there at night in a haunted hotel? You should write a paranormal story of your own! It's hard not to think about ghosts or time traveling when spending time in such evocative places, like Scotland or, I imagine, Gettysburg.
And I agree, Monica's books are great! She's actually a close friend of mine. She also lives in the Bay Area, and two women obsessed with 17th-century Scotland? We hit it off instantly.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and for such kind words about my books! :)

Fri, 06/13/2008 - 8:46am
Hi Veronica,
No, I'm never afraid. The "boys" would never hurt anyone. They just want people to know they are there. The hotel is quite active and I'm keeping a journal to document the activity. Cannon fire, gunshots, footsteps in the attic, items moved around the office, doors opening on their own, lights turned on and off, horses clip clopping through the lobby, voices of men speaking, soldiers appearing in the rooms, etc., are just a few of the almost nightly occurrences. The hotel sits on the first day's battle where there was fierce fighting. I, myself, have seen the soldiers three times. They appeared solid and real until they disappeared before my eyes. It is interesting, to say the least!
It's wonderful that you and Monica have struck up a friendship. She is also one of my favorite new authors.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Carolyn aka GettysburgLady

That sounds amazing, Carolyn!! I'd love to go someday. Do you think it's true that ghosts only appear to those who aren't afraid or who are open to seeing them?
I'd love to read a good ghost love story one of these days--I've never read one. That was one of my favorite bits in Gabaldon's Outlander (where she sees Jamie's ghost in the beginning), and I always wished she'd done more with that.

Hi! My name is Cathy and I love romance novels, so when I read "Sword of the Highlands", I really loved it! I love time travel romance novels that take place in Scotland the best so your books are "right up my alley!". I am the mother of 4 children, a 20 year old daughter, a 16 year old son, and 13 year old twin daughters. I just became a grandma for the first time in May, and he is the picture that I have as my picture. He is the light of my life. I have been married for 21 years and the poor man has had to put up with 21 years of me saying "listen to this in the book I am reading" and reading him passages, but only after telling him what the book was about. I secretly think he is not listening and just agreeing with me. Books are not his highlight. I am a HUGE fan of the Beatles and Keith Urban, and most music in general. My son just got back from Europe where he went to 7 different countries with students from around Michigan, playing in a concert band. He had a great time but I am glad he is home and I have been asking him thousands of questions as to what England was like, he didn't get to Scotland and I told him that is ok, I will do that one! haha As to writing, I began a book when I was 14 years old, after I got my hands on my mother's copy of "Shanna" by Kathleen Woodiwiss. After several attempts, I discovered that it was much harder than I thought it would be and have never attempted that again. I have thought about it over the years, but never have done it. In closing, I am just so glad that I had the privilege to read "Sword of the Highlands" and I am anxiously waiting until I can get to the store for "Master of the Highlands". At the medical clinic that I work at, we have a book club going. We all buy books (usually highlander ones, our favorites) and then pass them around. We have such fun discussing them! So now that I have written a book on here, I will go. Everyone take care, Cathy

Hullo. I just joined your site after readin' Sword of the Highlands. Fantastic book BTW.
I love to read and will be posting in that section what all I have read recently.
I will now be looking for your other books as I love the historical romance books. I loved the sory of James and his escapades. I am glad you changed his ending so that he was not hanged as in real life. This give an opening to other stories of him and his friends. I love when you get to really be involved in a person as the come to life.
Keep up the great work and I look forward to reading more of your books as soon as I can find them.

I just want to say that I love the books and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of your new book. Good luck with it and keep up the good work!!!

I am from Charleston South Carolina and right now we are trying to duck a hurricane or 3. Hannah passed us, but Ike and Josephine are on their way!!
I love the books and think reading them should be a daily requirement!
I am 48, or will be on the 9th of September and I am married and have 1 adult son currently serving in Iraq.
As long as you keep writing your delicious books I will continue to read them! Keep up the good work!

Greetings, Wiccan3--and Happy Birthday!! Give my best to Charleston--it truly is one of the greatest cities! I lived there for a few years as a child (my Dad was stationed at the Charleston Naval base), and I do miss all those big gorgeous trees and even the moss! Of my two older brothers, one went to the College of Charleston and the other to The Citadel. And speaking of military, you must be very proud of your son--my best wishes that he's kept safe, and that you Charlestonians stay dry this hurricane season.

Alicia Tags *Remember to smile, a lot, it will make people wonder what you're up to.*
Hi everyone! My name is Alicia, and I'm from a podunk town in central Oklahoma. Yeehaw, right? :) Ok, so first of all, books and writing are my life, my passion. And I'm going to admit this is the first time I've been on this website. I'm a little slow when it comes to getting around and finding new authors. But now I'm excited and loving this! A new place for me to become involved in. Yay. :) A little about myself...hmm... I'm 23 and I currently live with the love of my life, my highschool sweetheart who I became reaquainted with a little over a year ago. At the moment I'm working part time, and on the weekends I spend time with b/f's two young daughters, who are near and dear to my heart, so I'm a part-time stepmom. :) Nothing better. :) I'm an avid reader and writer. Been writing for as long as I can remember, and been reading since I could spell. LOL. My biggest passion in life is helping people. Books and writing come second. :) I have too many favorites to count so I won't bore you with the details unless you ask. :) My life is definitely an open book, so ask and you'll be told. :) My all-time favorite writers off the top of my head would have to be Jane Austen and Emily Bronte. But I indulge in many others such as Debbie Macomber, Kate Perry, Kate Austin, Vicki Lewis Thompson.. just to name a few. lol. And I'd like to say that I'm so looking forward to reading your work. I've moved you up to the top of my reads-to-get list. :) I love finding new authors, it always makes me feel like I've won the lottery. :) I can hear my b/f rolling his eyes as he builds me another bookshelf after today. My favorite music is country, and I simply love too many artists to count, so if you're curious, just ask. :) But I also listen to other types of music too. I'm a huge fan of classical music, I listen to Rock, Pop, Jazz, some Blues, and Opera. (Yes, opera) My wish is to one day be able to go see a live performance. I'm sure it would be unforgettable. Oh, and I'd love to go to the ballet. Being from small town America doesn't give me many opportunities to do that kind of stuff, but it's definitely on my to-do list. :) I'm a very upbeat person and I love to learn and try new things. I love getting to know people, especially those that love reading and writing as much as I do. I'm just waiting for the day I get to shine in the sun. :)

Hi and welcome, Alicia! What a wonderful post--I love that last line of yours... :) Though here in San Francisco, I'm just waiting for the sun to even *shine*!
Hey, I have to tell you, Kate Perry is my critique partner! (and dear friend, and sanity, and reality check, and and....) I'll have to have her stop by the forums to say hi! She has an awesome new series launching in February 2009. We're excited, with my January release, we'll get to do book signings together. :)
Anyway, thanks so much for the great introduction! Please feel free to start Forum threads of your own!
Hi there,
My name is Clarisse and I'm from South Africa.

Thanks!
Clarisse

Hi Veronica! I'm popping in to help inaugurate your new forums. I hope you find them as fun and lively as I do mine. I'll be sure to refer everyone interested in all things Scottish. :-)

Hi Veronica! These forums are so great! I just head an interesting segment on NPR tonight about interesting ways authors are using their websites to expand the world of their books. Then I came home to find one of my friends doing just that!

Hi Veronica,
Fellow Celtic Heart's member here.

Hi Candice and Tracy! Thanks for stopping by! I should point out, Candice's rocking forums were an inspiration for my own!
And welcome, Angela! Thanks so much for popping in to say hi. Congratulations on finishing that first book!! That's so exciting, and so fantastic that you're already hard at work on the next. My fingers are crossed for you! :)

Your enthusiasm has made my evening! I am so thrilled you enjoyed the first book--please let me know what you think of the next one.

I think I posted my comments in the wrong area! OOPS! Oh well, not real familar with the whole Fourm process...guess I will figure it out. I have been out of town so I missed the release date of the book, but I will have it by tonight if the bookstore still has a copy! Thanks again for what you do Veronica, you really are a great story teller and I appriciate that you share your talent with us!!!!
— Kelly Ripley Wed, 05/28/2008 - 6:40am
Thanks for a hilarious post, Undina! I cannot believe that ADORABLE beast (the dog in your photo, not the postman) isn't cooperating! LOL... :)

Not at all, Kelly! I'm still figuring it all out myself. :) And thank *you* for being so supportive. Everyone's kind words mean so much!!

Yes, she is a cutie, isn't she?
Although there won't be any sunbathing in "her" chair this summer (little doggie seems to have grown a bit during the winter). But she is content to share my lounger with me. Neither I nor the lounger are happy with that arrangement...
Would you per chance feel so sorry for a harassed reader of your books that you share a few (as in: many, a lot, gazilloins) hints about your next book to tide me over my long and patient (smirk)wait for SOTH?
Undina
— Undina Thu, 05/29/2008 - 5:57am
— veronica Thu, 05/29/2008 - 9:45am

Your New Fan,
Kathy

Hi Kathy! Welcome to the site! Thank you so much for the kind words--you've brought a huge smile to my face this morning. :) I hope you enjoy the rest of it.
As in my first book, a lot was based on real events and people. Once you finish, you should check out the real history section of my site for more fun facts about James. I was quite taken with him. I still have a print-out of that painting hanging on my wall!

Hi Stefinne!! I can't believe I didn't see your post earlier! Thanks so much for introducing yourself, and for such kind words. I hear you on the hectic/exhausting thing. I am always so grateful to find a book that actually keeps me up at night. I recently discovered Lisa Kleypas, and I was up till the wee hours with each book.

— veronica Fri, 06/13/2008 - 8:46am

Hello Cathy, Hello Sparkles! So glad you're joining us! And many thanks to both of you for the kind words.
Cathy, I am also a HUGE Beatles fan. How fun that you've got a book club going in the clinic where you work. Just say the word and I'd be happy to send your group some bookmarks! (Or to anyone else posting who's interested!)
Well, a warm welcome again to both of you! Hope to see you around. :)

Hi everyone. I haven't been able to get on here for a little bit, since school started.I am an At-Risk Aide/ Guided Study Aide. I will go ahead and fill one of these out, but if I have already done so, I apologise.
I am a married mom of 3. I have a daughter who is 12, and two sons ages 10 and 7. I live in Indiana and I love to read. My favorite thing to read is a romance novel with a time travel twist and set in the Highlands. Hopefully one day, I will get to travel there.
I just want to say that I love the books and am anxiously awaiting the arrival of your new book. Good luck with it and keep up the good work!!!
Thanks,

Thanks for the kind words about the books! I hope you like my January release even more than the others.
Have a great week!

Hey y'all!
I do not want to live in a word that bans books.
— Wiccan3 Fri, 09/05/2008 - 6:57am
